Daihatsu America, Inc., Los Alamitos, CA

Importer and distributor of Daihatsu cars and trucks.

 

General Services Manager and National Distribution Manager

Managed support services such as information technology, telecommunications, and construction oversight in addition to responsibility for the importation of 20,000 vehicles per year and their distribution to 300 dealers.

 

►       General Services Manager.

• Oversaw construction of the 60,000 square foot corporate headquarters with a new generation “smart building” design pre-wired for networking and advanced telecommunications.
• Designed, developed, and implemented a high productivity desktop LAN/SNA environment using Macintosh computers functionally connected for file and print sharing in an IBM Midrange and Mainframe environment.  Evaluated desktop word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software for ease of use and mainframe access to ensure optimum productivity.  This environment was the industry leader in productivity.
• Trained new personnel for our desktop hardware/software environment.
• Designed, developed, and implemented a PC-based distribution system in dBase to handle short-term needs while the mainframe system was being developed.  Consulted with mainframe team on functional needs of production software under development to ensure that PC system data would be scalable.
• Designed, developed, and implemented a database to record prospective dealer requests for information and to provide detailed market demographic reports.
• Member of development team for vehicle and parts distribution software for mainframe.

Supervised 45 employees in a 24 hours per day, 5 days per week distribution center.  Directed the procurement of inventory and arranged inbound and outbound traffic.

Distribution Center Operations Manager

Supervised 40 employees in one of five Volvo distribution centers in the US.  Directed the procurement of inventory from more that 300 vendors on a local, national, and international level. 

 

►       Developed and implemented a computerized system to track and analyze inventory acquisition costs and individual vendor performance.  These reports were used to negotiate favorable terms with vendors for price and delivery, as well as increased inventory turnover and order fill rates.

 

►       Member of five-person team to define specifications and work with programmers in the development and testing of a system that cross-referenced the inventory of five distribution centers to improve fill rates and increase customer satisfaction.  Provided user training.

 

►       Member of five-person team to define specifications and implement real-time processing enhancements to the online order entry and tracking system.
